COMMITTEE REPORTS

Show Committee/Award Committee - Matt

Matt passed out a written committee report from Caroline. The NRHA has approved our class schedule for the spring Wenatchee show. The 2005 year end awards will be presented during the spring show at the Thursday night exhibitor’s party. We would like Andrea to present the awards, but if she is not able, Judy will present them. Cheryl is donating pictures to the first place winners, remaining prizes have yet to be determined.

Darren moved that we budget an amount NTE $2500 for the remaining year end awards to be purchased by Cindy and Karen at their discretion. Janet seconded. - PASSED

A discussion followed about what food to have at the exhibitor’s party.

Matt moved that we allocate $1000 for food for the exhibitor’s party. Darren seconded. -PASSED

We’ll ask Karen P. to handle the food for the party.

A general membership meeting will also be held on at the show on Thursday. The show committee will put together an agenda for the meeting and the awards presentation.

Caroline stated in her report that the fees for portable stalls had increased from $90 to $100which increases our total stall cost for the Wenatchee show from $3600 to $4000. Brief discussion followed about the possibility of either looking into a different vendor OR raising the stall fees to the exhibitors. Matt agreed to research this. We also discussed changing from loose shavings to baled shavings. Matt will also be looking into this.

Matt reported that Cindy has purchased 12 sets of prizes to 3 places for the WRHA classes at the Wenatchee show. Four show pads with leather tooling were also purchased for the derby classes in Wenatchee. A brief discussion followed about what prizes should be given for derby winners. Darren suggested we award Bob Berg buckles to first place in each derby class. A discussion followed about buckles versus other kinds of prizes and the number of buckles that would be needed for the entire show year (9). Darren made a motion that a budget NTE $300 apiece be allocated for the purchase of the 9 buckles we would need for 2006. Lyell seconded - PASSED

Darren will call Bob Berg and arrange to get the buckles made. The show pads will be awarded to the reserve champion in each derby class. We also decided not to have the derby start before 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Sponsorship Committee - Janet

Cathy was unable to attend the meeting, but had submitted a written sponsorship report to Janet. We have received $25900 in cash pledges this year. Of that total, $9450 has been received with $16450 promised but not yet paid. Donations in the form of awards/services/products valued at $5100 have also been received. Grand total sponsorship value for 2006: $31,000. Thank you to all sponsors!

Membership Committee - Lyell

Lyell came to the meeting with a handout about the advantages of membership in the WRHA and some suggestions about how to enhance membership. Advantages include maintaining & promoting club’s ability to provide quality shows; receiving information about upcoming WRHA events; receiving Cascade Horseman magazine; providing a forum where new ideas can be expressed; meeting others with similar interests; being able to complete and qualify for NRHA affiliate regional and national finals; and being a member of one of the premiere NRHA affiliate clubs. Some suggestions to promote membership were year end high point recognition, requirement that exhibitors be members of the WRHA in order to compete in WRHA club classes, raffles and/or door prizes for member sand giving priority to members for the limited number or paid practices available at shows.ther ideas discussed were charging higher stall fees for non-members or across the board higher fees for non-members.

Cheryl can also put in a “Benefits of Membership” section on the website and will put the newsletter on the website.

Finally, it was noted that we already charge a $15 fee for non-members, and this fee should continue being enforced in 2006.

Newsletter - Janet

The first 2006 newsletter has been mailed. Cheryl asked that Janet send her a .pdf file of the newsletter so that it can be posted on our website.

Publications - Kim

Advisory Committee - Judy

OLD BUSINESS

Eve Willett was unable to attend this meeting to talk about insurance. Darren will schedule her for the next meeting and asks that she be put first on the agenda. Matt will go ahead and get the usual insurance for the next show.

NEW BUSINESS

Judy will be going over our chart of accounts so we can determine if added money can/should be adjusted and to get a better idea of how much we can spend in different areas, i.e., awards, banquets, what fees should be charged, etc.

Judy attended the NRHA convention in Las Vegas recently. She says they spent very little time discussing the new rule change and a lot of time discussing redistricting. Our new (proposed) district would consist of central-northern California, Oregon, Washington Idaho and the western half of Montana.

If the WRHA wishes to host the regional affiliate finals, we must submit our proposal to the NRHA at their June Board meeting. Judy, Darren and Lyell will be presenting a proposal to the WRHA Board prior to making their pitch to the NRHA.

Our next meeting will be May 1 at the Bellevue Library. Meeting will be a little later next time and will be held at 5:00 p.m. instead of 4:00 p.m.

ADJOURNED 6:45 P.M. Respectfully Submitted by Janet Hurlburt, Secretary
